Working of stereo(Stereophonics)
In our previous article, we have known about the mono sound system.
We know its advantages and disadvantages.
The mono(monophonic) sound system has many disadvantages so the new technology was introduced in a sound system called Stereo (Stereophonics).
So, firstly the question arises in our mind that
What is stereo (Stereophonics)?
Stereophonic sound or, more commonly, stereo, is a method of sound reproduction that creates an illusion of multi-directional audible perspective. This is usually achieved by using two or more independent audio channels through a configuration of two or more speakers (or stereo earphones/headphones) in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing. Thus the term "stereophonic" applies to so-called "surround sound" systems as well as the more common two-channel(left and right).
By stereophonic sound, we can easily notice the movement of any object.
For example, A car comes from the right and goes towards the left direction.
So, we can accurately measure the distance of the car that it is moving from right to left.
The mostly earphones/headphones we use generally also support stereo sound.

Working of Stereo(Stereophonics).
As we know that stereophonic (stereo) sound use 2 different frequencies but,
To record those frequencies or basically stereo sound we require a stereo microphone,
The stereo microphone records the sound in two different frequencies.
Inside the microphone, there is a partition for the left and right frequencies.
Two channels of the Stereo microphone are shown in the figure.
When the sound is received by the microphone it sends the signal for encoding.
After that, we can hear the Stereo sound by using the Stereo speaker setup.
Pros of Stereo(Stereophonics).
- It offers the facility of multi-track recording.
- It provides a better experience of listening to songs as compared to mono.
- It gives an idea of the direction from where the sound is coming.
Corns of Stereo (Stereophonics).
- The cost of a Stereophonic setup is higher than mono.
- Stereo files are hard to edit as compared to mono.
- The file size of Stereo content is high.
