Mobile phone Sensors
We all use our mobile phones for doing many things like calling, gaming, Spending time
on social sites, etc, and mobile we also use different types of sensors used in the mobile phone to provide ease to the user.
So I hope by reading the title you have understood what we will know in this article.
In this article, we will know different types of mobile phone Sensors which are used commonly in a smartphone.
List of sensors commonly used in smartphones.
The barometer is a sensor that can be utilized to provide 'floors climbed' information to a phone's health' app.
For more accurate indoor navigation, the barometer can determine the height from the sea level.
NFC stands for “Near Field Communication” and, as the name implies, it enables short-range communication between NFC-compatible devices.
This requires at least one transmitting device, and another to receive the signal. A range of devices can use the NFC standard and will be considered either passive or active.
Fingerprint sensors are of many types but in this article, we will know only about capacitive fingerprints in short
Capacitive fingerprint sensors use tiny capacitor circuits to collect data about a fingerprint. As capacitors can store electrical charge, connecting them up to conductive plates on the surface of the scanner allows them to be used to track the details of a fingerprint. The charge stored in the capacitor will be changed slightly when a finger is placed over the conductive plates, while an air gap will leave the charge at the capacitor relatively unchanged. An op-amp integrator circuit is used to track these changes, which can then be recorded by an analog-to-digital converter.

- Proximity sensor.
- Accelerometer Sensor.
- Gyroscope Sensor.
- Magnetometer.
- Ambient light sensor.
- Barometer.
- NFC (Near Field Communication).
- Fingerprint sensor.
- Infra-red sensor(IR blaster).
Proximity sensor.
The proximity sensor detects when an object is near the phone. Most commonly used to sense when a phone is held up to the user's ear to turn off the display. This saves battery life and prevents accidental screen touches.
This sensor is mostly used during phone calls.
Accelerometer sensor.
The accelerometer sensor is a sensor by which the user's experience in touch screen smart devices like mobiles and tablets has been improved. The main function of this is to adapt the orientation change when the position is changed from portrait to landscape (vertical to horizontal) and vice-versa. This technology actually measures the orientation change and positions the screen, so that the user gets comfortable with the viewing experience.
Gyroscope Sensor.
A gyroscope or Gyro sensor is used to watch 360° content (video and images) as we move the phone the video or image position also changes.
This happens because of Gyroscope Sensor.
See the video and check whether your phone has a gyroscope Sensor or not.
Magnetometer sensor.
The magnetometer is the sensor and provides mobile phones with a simple orientation of the Earth's magnetic field. As a result, your phone always knows which way is North so it can auto-rotate your digital maps depending on your physical orientation.
Ambient light sensor.
An ambient light sensor is a sensor in the smartphone which is a photodetector that is used to sense the amount of ambient light in the surrounding, and appropriately dim the device's screen brightness to match it. This avoids having the screen be too bright when the user's pupils are adapted for viewing in a dark room, or too dim when the device is used outdoors in the daytime.
Dimming the screen on a mobile device also prolongs the lifetime of the battery.
Barometer.
The barometer is a sensor that can be utilized to provide 'floors climbed' information to a phone's health' app.
For more accurate indoor navigation, the barometer can determine the height from the sea level.
NFC(Near Field Communication.)

Infra-red Sensor (IR blaster).
Infra-red Sensor or mostly called IR blaster is a sensor present in some smartphones to provide the facility of smart remote, it is the same as the IR bulb found in different other remote control.
The Infrared sensor is used for making your smartphone a universal remote control.
The Infrared sensor is mostly found in Xiaomi mobile phones, and Huawei mobile phones.
That is all about mobile phone Sensors.
