This technology uses both audio and visual evidence to detect the nicks or the contact of the ball with the bat.

A very sensitive microphone is placed at the middle stump and the microphone is connected to a device called an oscilloscope which tracks the sound waves.
When the ball strikes the bat or any part of the batsman the microphone records every single detail of sound.
The recorded trace is combined with the slow-motion video and played simultaneously.
Which makes it easy to determine if there was any contact of the ball with the bat or batsman.
