Search engine.
You all use the internet in your daily life for doing numerous types of work weather for searching something on a search engine, streaming online videos, and many more things.
As usual, firstly we will know about the search engines.
The search engine is a service that allows users to search for content with the help of the World Wide Web (WWW).
The search engines have the web crawler or in general the spiders to perform crawling. The work of a crawler is to visit a web page, read it, and follow the links to other web pages of the site. Each time the crawler visits a webpage it makes a copy of the page and adds its URL to the index. After adding the URL the web crawlers or spiders regularly visit the sites every month or two to look for updates or changes in the web pages.
In the algorithms, the Page Rank is the most popular algorithm used by search engines. It shifts through the pages recorded in the index and shows the best web pages on the first page.
but have you ever thought about how this all becomes possible, means you only write some words in the search box(keywords) and the search engine provides us all the related information related to that word in only just a few seconds?
So in this article, we will know about how search engine works. As usual, firstly we will know about the search engines.
Search engine.
The search engine is a service that allows users to search for content with the help of the World Wide Web (WWW).
A user enters keywords or key phrases into a search engine and receives a list of multiple related websites, images, videos, or other data. The list of content returned via a search engine to a user is known as a search engine results page (SERP).
Examples: Google, Yahoo, Bing search, and MSN Search. Search engines utilize automated software applications (referred to as robots, bots, or spiders).
How search engine works.
The search engine uses three stages to search that is.- Crawling
- Indexing.
- Retrieval.
1. Crawling.
2. Indexing.
In the next stage, the spiders create the index of the search engine. The index is like a book that contains a copy of each web page found by those spiders. If any webpage changes the spider updates the index with new content.
The index comprises the URLs of different web pages visited by the spiders and contains all the information collected by the spiders. This information is used by search engines to provide related information to users for their queries(searches). If the page is not added to the index it will not be available for the users.
3. Retrieval.
In the working of a Search engine, retrieval is the last stage in which the search engine provides the most useful and relevant answers in a particular order. Search engines use different algorithms to improve the search results so that the user gets genuine information.
In the algorithms, the Page Rank is the most popular algorithm used by search engines. It shifts through the pages recorded in the index and shows the best web pages on the first page.
Today the most used search engine is we all know Google, hear are the pie diagram that shows the popularity of search engines.
That is all about search engines, in this article we learn about the search engine and their stage-wise working.
