VoIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol).

Internet is a very vast network that is used by all the people of the world for doing multiple things. So, if you use the Internet then you know that there are different protocols used for doing different types of work on the internet.
So, of those multiple protocols, the one is VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), in this article, we will know about VoIP protocol,
But before knowing about VoIP firstly we will quickly remember Internet protocol (IP).

What is IP?

The IP (Internet Protocol) is the protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet.

What is VoIP?

The  VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a combination of both the hardware and software that enables or facilitate people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in the form of packets using Internet protocol (IP) rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the  PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).

A simple example of VoIP is all those calls made by WhatsApp or Skype, etc.

Now as you get an idea of VoIP and what VoIP actually is so it the time to know about its works, the working of VoIP is very much simple and easy to understand.

How VoIP works?

VoIP enables traditional calling services to operate over computer networks using packet-switched protocols. Packet-switched VoIP puts voice signals into packets, similar to an electronic envelope. VoIP packets can be transmitted over the Internet.

Some advantages of VoIP.

  • Cost:-As VoIP works with an internet connection, there is no need for a traditional phone line. This means that you only need to deal with one account, one bill, for both internet and phone.
  • Accessibility:-A VoIP phone system is different from a traditional phone system. Distance or location does not affect the VoIP system, whether you are calling any country in the world. As long as both devices have an internet connection, communication is possible.

Some disadvantages of VoIP.

  • Internet Connection:-You cannot operate a VoIP phone system unless you have a good internet connection with sufficient bandwidth.
  • Latency:-The VoIP requires a good internet connection otherwise some calls may appear to lag, or delay, This is because the packets of information need time to reassemble for an effective call to be made.

That is all about VoIP.
